    nice problem…At first I thought Qc5 of b8(Q) was mate…but then I saw the black had d5 as a nice answer to both…or d6. so then….and this is my guess…I say 1Qc5+ d5. 2. Bxg7+Bxg7 3.Rxg5#

But I have to think about it…

  2. stephano Says:

    only 2 moves required:

    b8 (Q)+ …d6
    Qc5 ++

  3. checkersisfortramps Says:

when black plays d6, he reveals check, preventing the obvious c5#.

At first I thought either b8 or c5 worked immediately. But the hidden tactic means that it is slightly more complex. Find the flaw with my analysis though…because it’s the quickest mate I’ve found…and Jeff hasn’t given it his blessing yet.

Greg, your solution is elegant, but I left some crucial information out of this problem—White to move and win in two! Sorry for the red herring!

  5. stephano Says:

    Nc5
    followed by Nf7

  6. stephano Says:

no no no no no doesn’t work, sorry…

    1.Lc2! (zz)
    1… Se2~ 2.Dd4#
    1… c5, d6 2.Tf5#
    1… d5 2.Dc7#
    1… Kc6,Kd5 2.Dc5

    Zugzwang with flight giving key.
