A blowout From's Gambit

Zoltan Vargyas 2275—Ferenc Vegvari ??? 1-0

Bird's Opening, From's Gambit, "Keener variation"

1 f4 e5
2 fxe5 d6
3 exd6 Bxd6

Bird's Opening, From's Gambit fully accepted.

4 Nf3 Bg4
5 e3 Qf6

4 … Bg4 is what I call the "Keener variation." I call it this because it's Greg's preferred response to 4.Nf3 in From's Gambit and I can't find anything about in the literature. If this variation has a proper name, please leave a comment to this post and let me know. 5 e3 is what Fritz considers to be the correct response.

6 Nc3 Ne7

Fritz 9 calculates Ne7 as giving White a 0.93 advantage. It recommends 6. … Qe7 7. Be2 Nc6 8.Nb5 Nf6 9. 0-0 0-0-0 10. Nfd4 Bxe2 11. Nxc6 Bxd1 12. Nbxa7+ Kd7 13. Nxe7

7 Ne4 Bxf3??

Ne4 is a great move, because it threatens to remove the Black bishop. I'm not sure what Vegvari's rating is, but I find it amazing to see a blunder of this magnitude in a game where one of the players is rated 2275.

8 Nxf6+

Game from Fritz 9. Note chesslab.com publishes the game date as 1993.
